Simple and boring but I like it.

If a permanent would be put into your graveyard from the battlefield, you may put it on top of your library instead.

I think I made something similar to Battle Totem before, I don't quite remember the card name, but it goes something like this.

Survival Instinct
Mana 2 Mana Green Mana Green
Enchantment
At the beginning of your upkeep, target creature get +3/+3 and trample until end of turn.

I made it after Elspeth first ability.

I like Oblivious Baloth. Putting trample on Baloth make it awesome.

I would make baloth a die trigger. That way it's not strictly better than O Baloth.

With only the pump I feel it would be too weak, especially if it takes one round to be able to reap the benefits.

How about making the pump enchantment mirror both Elspeth's +1 abilities? You either get token or boost one for +3/+3 and trample. I think trample would be different enough from flying so it wouldn't feel exactly like using Elspeth.

Nevermind, Elspeth that cannot be attacked is ridiculous. The idea still needs something to not make it dead on an empty board in my opinion. Gain 3 life?



//offtopic: I don't see any mention about planeswalkers, I assume they aren't planned to be included in this project? Maybe that's implied in "simple & strong cards which feel like Alpha"

I think I'd rather have something that does one thing at upkeep only so it doesn't feel overly much -like- a planeswalker.

As for planeswalkers, I'd personally like to avoid them. Comparing this project to Alpha is exactly how I envisioned it.

How about a Spike or few:

Spike Snatcher Mana 3Mana GreenMana Green
Creature - Spike
Spike Snatcher enters the battlefield with five +1/+1 counters on it.
Mana 2, Remove a +1/+1 counter from Spike Snatcher: Put a +1/+1 counter on target creature.
Mana 1, Remove a +1/+1 counter from Spike Snatcher: Untap target attacking creature. Prevent all combat damage that would be dealt to and dealt by that creature this turn.

Creature - Spike
Spike Mulcher enters the battlefield with two +1/+1 counters on it.
Mana 2, Remove a +1/+1 counter from Spike Mulcher: Put a +1/+1 counter on target creature.
Mana 2, Remove a +1/+1 counter from Spike Mulcher: Search your library for a basic land card and put that card onto the battlefield tapped. Then shuffle your library.
